Welcome to the Foundational 6-Class Series that introduces the newcomer to everything you always wanted to know about taking a group yoga class AND adding a weekly yoga practice to your schedule.
Start with just one class a week.

Welcome to the Sangha incubator and to the most wonderful time spent learning . . . yourself.
Whether for fitness, as a self-care practice, or as a stepping stone to your wellness evolution, yoga has the power to make a profound and positive difference in your life.
Join Jeff Costa* in this workshop-style class series to learn the foundations of a safe yoga practice, discover modifications to accommodate your personal ability with ample opportunity to ask questions and share your story.
This course includes the use of yoga props.
You are welcome to bring your own or borrow from the studio prop room;
including Manduka Pro mats, blocks, belts,
blankets, bolsters and cushions.
COURSE OUTLINE
Week 1:
Welcome to the heart of yoga
- How to “take a comfortable seat” and utilize props
- The foundational 3-part ocean breath
- Stability postures and six movements of the spine
- A reclined, guided relaxation
Week 2:
- Connecting breath and movement
- The foundations of balance
- Alignment in standing postures
- Half Sun Salutation
- The energy body self-check
Week 3:
- Yoga philosophy and the 8-limbed path
- Sun Salutation (What “take the vinyasa” means)
- How to deepen/expand/modify the postures
- How to sustain poses and build heat
Week 4:
- Prepare to step into a class environment/ class etiquette
- Fundamental breath work practices
- Meditation in motion: the spirit behind the postures
- Conscious communication
Weeks 5 and 6:
- Step into a class environment
- Review all the components learned by participating in a 1-hour yoga class
- Mobility and stability exercises
- Practice: 15-minute mindful sitting meditation

*This program will be led by Professional Yoga Teacher in the Kripalu Lineage, Jeff Costa ERYT 500 with support from the YogaSpirit Registered Yoga School interns, currently in their nine-month curriculum to become Certified 200 Hour Yoga Teachers at Sangha New Bedford in June 2025.
